#BritMumsSTC Twitter party: How to use your blog for good

Mozambique opened my eyes in a way that nothing on TV, radio, internet or newspapers can. The realisation that millions of people worldwide have no access to healthcare and what that means in reality, on the ground, won’t leave me.

These are the words of Christine Mosler, a blogger who visited Mozambique with Save the Children to raise awareness for the work the charity is doing there. Now Christine and Save the Children's Liz Scarff are in New York City, along with other bloggers, putting pressure on governments to provide air to that will help save lives in East Africa. BritMums’s Jennifer Howze spent Saturday at Save the Children’s blogging conference which focused not only on how to be a better blogger but also how we can help with Save the Children’s campaign.

Blogger of the Week + #passiton

This week's Blogger of the Week is a bit of an extension from last week's glorious Christine Mosler of Thinly Spread. As we all know, Christine is, as I type, in Mozambique doing very important work for Save the Children and the #passiton campaign. We've also had some very important bloggers on the ground here in the UK who are so admirably working for and supporting the #passiton campaign.

One such blogger is this week's BritMums Blogger of the Week: Maggy Woodley of Red Ted Art! Over the last year or so, Maggy's brilliantly crafty and creative blog has grown by leaps and bounds. Inspiring all of us to get "down and dirty" with our children is but one of her accomplishments. Maggy is a wonderful voice in the BritMums blogging community and has leant her support to the #passiton campaign as well.

Using your voice for charity

 
Eva Keogan, aka Nixdminx, was one of the bloggers who went to Bangladesh with Save the Children and helped make #blogladesh a successful campaign. Here, she writes about using your blog for a charitable cause. Over to Eva:

I spent a lot of my childhood on the charity trail with my parents raising money for a charity for Autistic adults – there was no adequate provision for it and I have a brother with Autism.  I often despaired about where he would end up and so I grew up with this fear perched on my shoulder.
 
I have stood on streets rattling a collection tin back in the day when you were not allowed by law to speak or shout – a far cry from the chuggers (or “charity muggers”) who greet us daily.  It was pretty tough.  I would often get scoffed at ‘I’m not giving my money to artistics – they don’t need it!’  Funny as it sounds, it’s true.
 
The flipside was that there were many events, bric-a-brac sales, charity auctions, cake sales, you name it, I was dragged into it.  At one time Felicity Kendall was the patron of the charity and Joanna Lumley came to a fundraiser and I met her, she was best known for Purdey not Patsy back then and I was in awe (and she even spoke to me).

While we were all enjoying a very nice British summer, our very own and very fabulous Rosie Scribble had a different type of break: she went to Cameroon with Pampers/Unicef.

She's just released the memoirs of the trip ... so make sure you go over and read them and give her your support. The trip changed her life.
