Good morning! Do you know what the time is?
It's 'excellent newer blogger o'clock' !
So withoutfurther ado I give you *dramatic drum roll* ...
Highlights of the week
This week there has been talk of all things marital with Pinkoddy asking "Is it worth it?" and The Singing Mummy addressing her husband in a 'Dear So and So...' that I think many of us will relate to!
Yellow Days has given us some food for thought with her post 'Breast or Bottle: I just don’t care!' whilst Toddling into Madness is at the end of a breastfeeding journey.
Two wonderfully honest posts have caught my eye this week. Brand new blogger Follow this caterpillar, it wants to be a butterfly! has written about her dissapointment on finding out she is having a boy and Dummy Mummy has been sharing an unexpected day with us.
For those with the 'early week blues' there's some humorous relief in the form of Five Go Blogging's 'Mystery Of The Missing Vowel' where a typo will have you sniggering and Multiple Mummy has been explaining how 'The Fishfinger did it'!
Morethanamumblog has pondered over talking to her child about fears in 'Are you scared of spiders mummy?' whilst 12 hours to bedtime has been dealing with some extreme parenting in the form of a post-partum forward rolling mummy!
And finally Dear Beautiful Boy has shared her best day, DisAbled Positive Parent has been inspirational and getting on the floor and last but not least a 'Silent Sunday' from Yellow Days which encapsulates the downside to the recent seasonal change in the weather!
This weeks tips
Video blogging! Love it or fear it? Putting yourself 'out there' for the world to see can be a daunting prospect but it needn't be. It's easy, fun and a great way of standing out as a newer blogger. In the States video blogging is a very popular, a popularity is hotly tipped to spread to the UK.
Halloween is an ideal excuse to dress up and get creative with video blogging! If you are not yet comfortable with the thought of speaking to the camera then there are ways around it, for example how about a talking hand puppet or a speaking carved pumpkin? If you have a hidden creative side video blogging can be seriously enjoyable and try not to be put off by flashy video posts with slick graphics - it's a lot easier to do than you may think!
Some video blogging basics to consider before you film:
- Film in a good light - to dark a room and people won't be able to see you.
- Try to remove any distractions from the background - having a television programme playing the background is going to take peoples attention away from what you are saying.
- Don't place yourself too far from the camera/ mobile telephone - the sound recordings vary from camera to camera, too far away and it may not pick up your voice clearly.
To get started all you need is a mobile phone or camera which can record video. Once you have shot your video you upload it to your computer and then edit it using a programme such as Windows Movie Maker Live - a standard, free video editing programme. A brief walk-through tutorial on how to upload, edit and add text to a video in Windows Movie Maker Live can be found here.
If you are still unsure how to 'get going' with video blogging or get stuck at any point along the way we are always happy to help, you can find us on Twitter @BritMums and @MammasaurusBlog.
